Udyam registration is an official government registration for micro, small and medium enterprises in India. Any business entity including sole proprietors, partnerships, LLPs and companies can register on the Udyam portal to be classified as an MSME.
As per revised norms: Micro enterprises have investment up to Rs 1 crore and turnover up to Rs 5 crore. Small enterprises have investment up to Rs 10 crore and turnover up to Rs 50 crore. Medium enterprises have investment up to Rs 50 crore and turnover up to Rs 250 crore.
Benefits include priority sector lending, lower interest rates, protection against delayed payments from buyers, subsidy schemes under government programmes, preference in government tender procurement and easier access to industrial licences.
Udyam registration is not mandatory by law for all businesses, but it is required to avail MSME benefits and schemes. Banks, government departments and larger companies often ask for Udyam registration proof before processing transactions.
Udyam registration primarily requires your Aadhaar number, PAN, and basic business details. The registration is linked to ITR and GST data automatically. No separate document upload is required in most cases.
PAN is mandatory for Udyam registration from April 1, 2021. GST registration is also required if the business is mandatorily required to have GST. Businesses not required to have GST can self-declare this.
After successful registration on the Udyam portal, you receive a Udyam Registration Certificate with a unique Udyam Registration Number (URN). This certificate is permanent and does not need renewal.
